FAQ
About Our Jewellery & Materials
What materials is Phase jewellery made from? Phase jewellery is crafted from laser-sintered 3D printed nylon paired with solid sterling silver. We use Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), a high-tech process that builds intricate designs layer by microscopic layer. This premium nylon is incredibly durable and featherlight, giving our chunky, architectural designs pleasing volume without the heavy, restrictive feel of traditional materials.
How are the vibrant colours applied? Our signature rich solids and gradients are achieved through a specialized hot dye process done entirely by hand in our Glasgow studio. The unique, slightly porous surface of the 3D-printed nylon perfectly absorbs the non-toxic fabric dyes. Because the colour is embedded deeply into the material, it will not chip or flake off, ensuring your piece remains vibrant.
Is your jewellery suitable for sensitive skin? Yes. To ground our modern nylon forms, all of our functional hardware—including ear wires, earring posts, chains, and bails—is crafted from solid, recycled sterling silver. Sterling silver is naturally hypoallergenic and highly durable, ensuring that even our boldest statement pieces are safe and comfortable for all-day wear.
Are the rings and bangles flexible? Yes! The combination of the nylon material and our unique geometric designs (like our Swell and Undula collections) creates pieces that are gently flexible with a subtle stretch. This allows our rings and bangles to glide comfortably over knuckles and hands, providing a forgiving, adaptable fit that rigid metals cannot offer.
Care & Longevity
How do I care for and clean my 3D printed nylon jewellery? While our 3D-printed nylon is highly resilient, we recommend treating your jewellery with care to ensure it lasts a lifetime. Avoid applying excessive force or pressure to the pieces. If your jewellery needs cleaning, simply wash the nylon gently with warm, soapy water and leave it to air dry. For the sterling silver elements, use a soft silver polishing cloth to remove any natural tarnish.
Is the 3D-printed nylon durable? Absolutely. Despite its weightless feel, laser-sintered nylon is exceptionally robust. It has a natural flexibility that makes it highly resilient to drops and daily wear, meaning you can enjoy your statement pieces confidently every day.
Sustainability & Ethics
Where is Phase jewellery made? Every piece begins with Lynne’s meticulous design in our Glasgow studio. The high-tech 3D printing is then carried out by our trusted UK manufacturing partners, who are committed to environmental responsibility and operate a certified carbon-neutral facility. Finally, the pieces return to Glasgow, where they are hand-dyed and expertly finished.
Is your 3D printed jewellery sustainable? We do not use plastics lightly. We see it as a great responsibility to create precious, high-quality pieces designed to last a lifetime, rather than fast fashion. The SLS 3D printing process is highly efficient, producing very little waste compared to traditional manufacturing. We also partner with a certified carbon-neutral facility to minimize our environmental footprint, and we use recycled sterling silver where possible.
What if my piece needs repairing or I no longer wear it? We want to make our business as circular as possible. We can clean, fix, and even re-dye pieces to give them a new lease on life. If you encounter any issues or simply no longer wear your piece, please get in touch. You can send it back to us, as we are actively working on ways to recycle our materials and keep them out of landfills.
Orders, Returns & Bespoke
Do you accept returns? Yes, we accept returns within 30 days on all unworn pieces and offer a full refund. Please note that sized precious rings, bespoke commissions, and sale items are exempt from returns.
Can you make bespoke pieces or custom colours? We love working on custom creations! We frequently produce special colourways and bespoke precious pieces for our clients. If you have a specific gradient in mind or wish to discuss a custom design, please get in touch with our studio to explore the possibilities.
